Becoming a Dive Computer Expert

Interested in knowing more about your dive computer and how it works? Today's divers use dive computers on every dive, yet many do not know how to select a computer that is right for them or how to take advantage of important features of their dive computer.

In the Computer Diving Specialist course, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the history, purpose, types, and operation of today's dive computers. You will be guided in how to select a dive computer that is right for you, how to set up and configure your computer, and how to connect your computer to a laptop (PC) and smartphone.

What the Course Covers

In the PADI Computer Diving Specialist course, you will learn about:

• The purpose of a dive computer, what decompression sickness is and how a dive computer helps us avoid decompression sickness
• The history of dive computers and key milestones in the development of today's dive computers
• What the basic components of a dive computer are and how are dive computers classified 
• What are decompression models and dive computer algorithms and how do you determine which one is best for you 
• What connectivity options are available for today's dive computers
• How do you change basic and advanced settings on a dive computer
• How do you connect a dive computer to PC software
• How do you connect a dive computer to a smartphone
• How do you update your dive computer's firmware

Once you complete this course, you will understand how to make an informed decision on which dive computer is best for you and how to perform both basic and advanced configurations of a dive computer. The Computer Diving Specialist class can also count toward your Master Scuba Diver rating.

Prerequisites

• 15 years old or older
• PADI Open Water Diver or qualifying certification from another agency
