Join Aquatic Adventures, Inc. as we travel to Mackinaw City, Michigan, where we will be diving the presitine waters of the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Preserve. Our diving package features 3 days of 2-tank morning dives.
Located at the point where lower Michigan and Upper Michigan converge, the Straights of Mackinac Shipwreck Preserve covers a nearly 150 square mile area. The preserve extends from Wilderness State Park Cheboygan in the south to Mackinac Island in the north. The preserve is split by the Mackinac Bridge. To the west of the bridge are the waters of Lake Michigan. To the east are the South Channel and the waters of Lake Huron.
There are 12 marked shipwrecks in the preserve. However, dozens of lesser known wrecks are also in the area. The shipwreck we have visited on our Mackinaw City dive trip include the Cedarville, Colonel Ellsworth, Eber Ward, M. Stalker, Maitland, Minneapolis, Sandusky, William H. Barnum, and William Young. Depths of these wreck range from 60 to 130 feet, making this trip suitable for intermediate to advanced level divers.
Aquatic Adventures recommends that divers book rooms at the Rainbow Motel in Mackinaw City. Air fills will be provided at the Rainbow Motel in the afternoon to those divers who need them. While our staff will be staying at this property, divers and their families can stay elsewhere if they choose.
