MASTER SCUBA DIVER RATINGS

Take the challenge. Set your goals!

As the black belt of scuba diving, there is no greater challenge for a recreational scuba diver than earning one of the PADI Master Scuba Diver ratings. A PADI Master Scuba Diver rating places you in an elite group of highly respected divers recognized throughout the world as having earned one of PADI’s highest non-professional ratings.

Here is where your hard work and superior dive training is recognized. Here is where you distinguish yourself from the merely certified and where you join the ranks of the truly qualified. If you are the kind of diver who refuses to settle for good enough, then we invite you to take the Master Scuba Diver challenge.

What it means to be a PADI Master Scuba Diver

As a PADI Master Scuba Diver, you are recognized for having earned all of the core certifications in the PADI training curriculum. It also means that you have accumulated the training and experience matching one of five Master Scuba Diver levels:

  • Master Scuba Diver: You are on your way and have completed all of the PADI's core classes and 5 PADI specialties. You have also logged at least 50 open water dives.
  • Beyond Master Scuba Diver: You have completed Master Scuba Diver, at least 5 additional PADI specialties and have logged at least 75 open water dives. Learn more about each "Star" rating on our Beyond Master Scuba Diver page.

Get started today on the Master Scuba Diver quest. . .

It starts with your basic certification course, but becoming a highly recognized diver with superior dive skills takes hard work and a great deal of experience. You will build upon the basic survival skills learned in your beginning scuba class by planning and executing five different kinds of dives in your Advanced Open Water course. Then it’s off to a specialty course where you will perfect your skills in deep diving, shipwreck diving, or one of the many other PADI Specialty courses. Your training culminates with one of the most challenging and rewarding course you will ever take, the Rescue Diver course. Here you will learn the art of self rescue and how to handle dive emergencies, both minor and major.
