Cozumel Trip Details

Join Aquatic Adventures, Inc. and Scuba Club Cozumel as we return to Mexico’s largest island. Located just 10 miles off the Yucatan Peninsula, this picturesque location is home to Mexico’s finest dive sites.

Cozumel is known for its relaxing and stress free drift dives where savvy divers can float along observing the abundant marine life without moving a fin. Divers can enjoy a rich diversity of dive sites from the spectacular walls of Palancar or Columbia to the beautiful reefs of Yucab and El Paso del Cedral.

Our resort, Scuba Club Cozumel, is located on the waterfront just one mile south of the downtown ferry dock. Scuba Club Cozumel is an attractive resort featuring multi-level buildings of Spanish-Colonial architecture. The resort is private, safe and secluded from the crowds you’ll find downtown, but it is still close enough to walk to town for those who prefer to do more than dive.

The Dive Center is open daily from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Dive Boats

Dive boats leave at 8:30 a.m. (weather permitting) from resort docks. Be ready at 8:15 for boarding. Two dives are made each morning and arrive back at the resort in time for lunch around 1:00 p.m.

A fleet of seven customized diesel boats are available to safely transport divers to the dive sites. The boats are different sizes and can accommodate from 10 to 20 divers. They will be ready for boarding every morning at the Club’s private pier right after breakfast. Diving guests are normally assigned to the same boat, crew and u/w guide for the length of their stay.

Night Dives

Boat night dives are scheduled through the resort on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Aquatic Adventures will arrange for a group night dive off the boats early in the trip. A minimum of 6 divers. Equipment is not included other than tank, weights, and weight belts.

Shore night dives can be done any night right in front of the resort. Just make sure to check out your tank before the dive shop closes at 5:30 pm.

Gear Rinse and Storage

Dive gear lockers and freshwater rinsing tubs are conveniently located just a few steps away from the docks next to the dive center and on the opposite end of the beach next to the pool. Bring your own padlock, as they are not provided. (Master Lock size.)

Shore Diving

Diving is great right offshore from the resort. The jagged limestone wall gives refuge to many juvenile reef fish, lobsters, crabs, octopus, and even an occasional seahorse. The house reef is great for macro photography.

Depth off from the resort is about 15′-25’, and access is easy from either of the piers using the specially built stairs, complete with hand rails. A very easy exit is found through a tunnel that leads to a waist deep saltwater pool and a short staircase up to the deck. Night dives here are fantastic with memorable creature encounters.

Tanks can be checked out from 8:00 am – 5:30 pm.

Cozumel Dive Sites

Due to the prevailing currents found in Cozumel, all boat dives are drift dives. Divemasters will lead every group of divers. The pace is generally very relaxed. When the currents are running stronger it’s easiest to go with the flow and let the current carry you over the reefs and through the passes. Naturally some dives are more advanced than others and your guide will help to evaluate your diving comfort level so they may suggest dive sites best suited to your skill level. Dive sites are between a 10 minute and 50 minute boat ride from the resort. Cozumel’s reefs are located in a National Marine Park, and there is an additional fee for diving in the marine sanctuary.

The newest site in Cozumel is the wreck of the Felipe Xicotencatl located very close to the resort on nearby Tormentos Reef. This dive is conducted at 3:00 in the afternoon. Aquatic Adventures will coordinate a group dive on the wreck early in the trip.

Meals

Breakfast

The restaurant will have coffee ready each morning from 6:30 a.m. Guests receive milk, juice, tea, coffee and water with breakfast. Breakfast starts at 7 a.m. The menu includes the usual scrambled eggs with bacon or hash browns, hot cakes, French toast, and plenty of fresh fruit. Also included in the buffet are local favorites such as “Huevos a la Mexicana”, “Huevos Motuleños”, and “Huevos Rancheros or Burritos”. To satisfy your sweet taste, “Pan Dulce” is served fresh baked every day.

Lunch

Every day a special lunch is prepared to be ready when divers return from the morning dive trips. The lunch consists of a combination of Mexican, Yucatecan and native Mayan dishes, giving you the opportunity to taste the traditional food from this region. Of course, if you can’t live without a sandwich or hamburger and fries, you can order them from the menu or get a light salad at the salad bar.

Dinner at the Resort is Not Included

Visitors have the opportunity to venture into the close by downtown and experience some of Cozumel's local restaurants and stores for dinner. In addition, you can order off the lunch menu, and the staff will have your order waiting for you to pick up around 5 p.m. There is an additional charge for ordering.

Soft Drinks, Cocktails & Cerveza

Coffee, tea, iced tea, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages are available at the resort. Since the resort restaurant doesn't handle cash, you can open a bar tab at the beginning of the week by leaving a credit card, then settle up at the end of your stay.

Language

Spanish and Mayan. English is widely spoken.

Airport Arrival

Cozumel has an international airport, fully equipped for both large jets and private planes. International arrivals are expected to fill out a Customs Declaration & a Mexican Tourism Card before the plane lands. You must first clear the Immigration Area, where your passport or proof of citizenship is required.

Mexican Customs and Immigration

After going through immigration, you proceed immediately to the Baggage/Customs area, which is just beyond the immigration. After you pick up your luggage and present your customs form to the officer, you will be asked to press a button on a machine resembling a stoplight. It flashes, at random, either a green (Go) or a red (Stop) light. Green means your luggage will not be inspected, red means it will be quickly checked. The whole process, from getting off the plane to getting out of customs takes about 15 minutes, rarely longer than 30 minutes, speedy by U.S. standards.

Airport Transportation

Transfers are not included in your package. Before you exit the airport you need to buy a TAXI ticket approximately $10.00 US per person. Be sure your luggage has been loaded into the van before getting in. Remember the taxi number and keep your taxi receipt. Make sure your luggage is unloaded at your arrival. The ride is only 10 minutes.

Airport Departure Tax

Set aside $20 US per person in cash to pay when you leave. Traveler’s checks and credit cards are not accepted. Most airlines do charge the fee ahead of time and include it in your ticket price. Check with your airline.

ATM

You can get small amounts of pesos (approx. $100 US) with your VISA and MasterCard credit cards. Be sure you remember your PIN number. You can also get pesos through the local Amex office with your Amex credit card.

Money Exchange

Local currency is Pesos. Travelers checks are accepted everywhere. Personal I.D. such as a driver’s license will be required for cashing Travelers Checks and payments made with credit card. Bring plenty of $1 and $5 bills. Do not bring bills larger than $20. The official rate varies daily. Exchange hours at the bank are 10 am until 1 pm only on weekdays. On weekends and after hours you can use the Exchange House in town. The hotel front desk can exchange small amounts of money; however their exchange rate is slightly lower. All exchanges are into pesos.

Telephone Service

Mobile service: WiFi calling and cell service is available for most major carriers. Check availability and charges with your carrier.

International calls: The Front Desk provides long distance service for collect or calling card calls from 7 am until 9 pm. Be sure to ask the rates before placing your call. There is a service charge payable at the time of placing the call. You must present an international card to be able to charge a call.

Local calls: Dial 201 from the phone located under the stairs, next to the Front Desk. Booth #2.

Water Conservation

We would appreciate your help in conserving the fresh water supply at the hotel. Being an island, we have to rely on underground wells and rain. City water at times becomes so scarce that water has to be trucked in. You can help us by not letting the water run in the rooms needlessly, reporting any leaks or faulty plumbing, and using the rinse tanks for your scuba equipment. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Getting Around

Taxis are plentiful and very cheap. If you need a taxi it is faster to flag one down as they pass by. Always ask how much the fare will be before getting into the taxi. All taxi drivers must carry with them a rate sheet listing the approved fares. Taxi drivers are notorious for never having any change. Try to have small bills handy. The usual fare between Scuba Club Cozumel and town is about $5 US. (It is only a fifteen-minute walk).

Car, Jeep and Motorcycle Rental

Rentals are available through the front desk. Minimum rental time is 24 hours. For overnight parking, you must park your car across the street from the club. NO PARKING ZONES are marked with red or yellow lines painted on the curbs. Park only along white lines.

Safety Boxes

Scuba Club Cozumel will not be responsible for valuables left in the rooms. The hotel offers safety deposit boxes free of charge for your convenience. They are located at the Front Desk and can be accessed from 7 am until 9 pm daily. Use the same precautions for your personal items as you would anywhere else you travel. DO NOT LEAVE TEMPTATIONS lying around your room and lock your patio and entrance doors at all times.

Drinking Water and Ice

The water in your room is potable but not suitable to drink. Scuba Club Cozumel has its own water filtration system. Filtered water is used in the kitchen for meal preparations and at the bar. Each room has a small refrigerator and a pitcher. The water served in the restaurant is bottled water and the ice is purified. The pitcher in your room can be filled with filtered water available in the corridors and the ice bucket can be filled in the restaurant at no charge. Bottled water is sold at any store in town. Drink ONLY bottled water.

For Your Safety

Scuba Club Cozumel policy is NO VISITORS INSIDE THE ROOMS. Visitors are only allowed on the premises between 7:30 am and 9:00 pm. The safety of all our guests is very important to us. Night watchman is on duty from 8:00 pm until 8:00 am.

Wireless Internet

SCC has high speed internet throughout the resort allowing you the ability to get online 24 hours a day from the comfort of your own room. This is a free service to all our guests.

Equipment Rental

Equipment can be rented from Aquatic Adventures, including dive computers. See our Rent Scuba Equipment page for current prices. Please indicate what, if any, equipment you are planning to rent from Aquatic Adventures so that we can reserve equipment for your trip.

Aquatic Adventures recommends that all travelers arrive with their own mask, snorkel, fins, and dive computer. at the very least.

Insurance

If you aren’t already a member of DAN, we recommend that you consider joining. As a member, you can also purchase dive accident insurance & trip insurance. Trip cancellation insurance applications are available from DiveAssure.

Dive Training

All training should be pre-arranged with Aquatic Adventures, Inc. before leaving for the trip. We urge you to complete our eLearning before you arrive. However, you should be able to access your PADI account through the WiFi at the resort. Aquatic Adventures typically offers the following classes in Cozumel.
